New Heart Survey of Pedigree Dogs

Pedigree Dog Heart Survey

Please help! This applies to all pedigree dogs (not just Italian Greyhounds).

In my role as breed health coordinator, the Kennel Club has been in touch to make us aware of a new online survey, which aims to improve understanding of the prevalence and type of heart disease affecting different pedigree dog breeds. Hopefully, the Kennel Club will get some useful findings from this survey and the results can be used to direct new research areas that require further attention. The Kennel Club has said it would be really helpful if breed health coordinators could share the survey with our Breed Clubs and any other relevant groups.

The Kennel Club and Veterinary Cardiologist Society have developed a new survey, which aims to improve understanding of the prevalence and type of heart disease affecting different pedigree dog breeds.

It’s online, quick, easy and anonymous!

This survey has been developed by The Kennel Club (KC) and Veterinary Cardiologist Society (VCS) to gain data and insight into the prevalence and type of heart disease affecting different pedigree dog breeds. This will further give the organisations a better understanding of the appetite for heart testing across breeds, as well as any breed-specific nuances that may influence heart disease development.

This survey is for dogs that may currently be living or who have, sadly, passed away. Please complete one survey per dog that you own/ have previously owned.

We recommend completing this survey on a desktop computer or laptop. All personal information given will be kept confidential and be presented anonymously.

The survey will be managed and results collected by The Kennel Club. All personal information given will be kept confidential and be presented anonymously.

To complete the survey, please click here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/heartsPR

The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

The Kennel Club takes insights from research and feeds them into its Breed Health and Conservation plans, so that we can work with breeders to give information and guidance about how to ensure the future health of pedigree breeds. These plans, which enable The Kennel Club to track progress and make meaningful changes to breed health, have been developed as a result of reviewing more than 4000 research papers, which makes these plans the most comprehensive review of pedigree health data anywhere in the world.
